Art History: From Antiquity to the Baroque Style
Let's start with the definition. Art is the act or object aimed at evoking some kind of emotion in the listener or viewer. An artwork can be a painting, a song, a film, a play, or even an ordinary tin if the artist gives it a particular emotional message.
Art is therefore a creative activity, reflecting the interests not only of the artist but also of others. It allows us to comprehend the world around us, to see the beauty in it, to express our emotions and feelings.
The First Steps of Humanity in Art
Art emerged in the primitive era 30-40 thousand years ago, when modern humans "homo sapiens' appeared. Prehistoric art was closely connected to religion and magic rituals.
Monuments of Stone Age art (petroglyphs, drawings on vessels, stone, clay and wood sculptures) were devoted exclusively to animal hunting scenes - the animals were the main object of creativity. Prior to hunting, ancient artists painted animals that they planned to kill on cave walls. The petroglyphs depicted animals' appearance and habits in an expressive and accurate way.
